Feminist Strike, Gender and Climate Action - Part 1
2021-08-31, 10:30–12:30, Zelt 10
Language: English

What do feminist strikes and transformative perspectives on knowledge production have to do with climate justice?

Women / FLINTA people are more affected by the climate crisis than cis-men and their voices are also underrepresented in climate policy decision-making. However, just more representation in climate policy is not enough; it is also necessary to rethink global power structures and to depatriarchialize institutions. Parallelly, much of the resistance to climate injustices and efforts to create alternatives for a climate-just future stem from these groups. What can we in the German climate movement learn from the resistance practices of women / FLINTA who work on frontlines in the fight for women's rights and social justice?

How can we rethink the Europatriarchal way of seeing the world ? How could we design our perception of knowledge differently, as formulated by Minna Salami? What other sources of knowledge can help us to further develop our resistance and alternatives here in the European climate movement? What do poems, dance and music have to do with it?

In this workshop we want to turn our attention to Latin America together with you in order to develop the concept of the feminist strike, which arose from the movement “Ni Una Menos” (Not one less). We will also reflect on why black feminism is essential for creating a climate-just society. Join the workshop and develop new, inspiring action ideas for a climate-just world with us! We use interactive and creative art-based methods :-)

Facilitators form the Kipppunkt Kollektiv: Henna-Elise Selkälä and Lucas Langer
Invited Peruvian performance maker, researcher and feminist activist: Maricarmen Gutiérrez Castro. Maricarmen's work centres the body in symbolic actions that tackle urgent political issues in her communities. She attempts to incorporate anti/de - colonial community feminist practices and principles from Abya Yala to her creative interdisciplinary processes.

Prerequisites for participants

We especially invite all people to this workshop who are already somewhat familiar with the topic of feminism. This workshop is in 2 parts.

[Disclaimer: Both facilitators form the Kipppunkt Kollektiv are white and cis. Our position and privileges influence our point of view, but we strive to use them as a starting point for our critical reflection.]
